ALEXANDER'S FEAST

"I followed her through the gate in the wall and across the garden path. The snow-covered lawn sloped down toward the lake, and through the bare stringy branches of the weeping willows I had my first glimpse of Schloss Fyrmian."

It is Ash Wednesday, 1947. Salzburg is occupied by the U.S.Army. Graham Anders, an 18-year old soldier, has already fallen hopelessly in love with the young Austrian widow who owns the crumbling, empty palace across the lake, the young widow whose baby died during the night...

Fourteen years later Graham Anders is a busy, successful, Harvard-educated Philadelphia lawyer.Graham has many problems, some of his own making. He has just defeated another attempt to take over his biggest client, Boatwright Locomotive Works, still controlled by his wife's family. He is suddenly invited to attend a law seminar in this very same palace.

It is 1961, the hight of the Cold War.
