Advanced Plotting is designed for the intermediate and advanced writer: you’ve finished a few manuscripts, read books and articles on writing, taken some classes, attended conferences. But you still struggle with plot, or suspect that your plotting needs work.
This book can help.
The Plot Outline Exercise is designed to help a writer work with a completed manuscript to identify and fix plot weaknesses. It can also be used to help flesh out an outline. Additional articles address specific plot challenges, such as getting off to a fast start, propping up a sagging middle, building to a climax, and improving your pacing. Guest authors share advice from their own years of experience.
Read the book straight through, study the index to find help with your current problem, or dip in and out randomly — however you use this book, you’ll find fascinating insights and detailed tips to help you build a stronger plot and become a better writer.

Events
I'll be attending the Left Coast Crime convention for mystery writers and fans in Santa Fe March 24-27. I'm speaking on a panel about "Growing Young Readers" and giving a talk on "What I Learned from Nancy Drew." I'll also be introducing my two new books! The Eyes of Pharaoh is a middle grade mystery set in ancient Egypt. Rattled is my first book for adults, a romantic suspense set in the Southwest (for more info, visit www.krisbock.com.)
On April 12, I present the SCBWI New Mexico schmooze at Alamosa Books, 7 pm: The publishing world is filled with buzz about self-published authors making it big through e-books. Is this a shortcut to success? The standard of the future? Or just a bunch of misleading hype? I'll explain the self-publishing process and help you decide if and when this path might be right for you.
On April 16, illustrator Lois Bradley and I will present a workshop on Writing or Illustrating Children's Books in El Paso, Texas.
On May 14 I'll be at Alamosa books in Albuquerque again. Jennifer Cervantes, Uma Krishnaswami, Kimberley Griffiths Little, and I will present a panel on middle grade novels. This one is free and open to the public.
In online news, I did a series of posts on the group blog The Spectacle (devoted to speculative fiction). I explored self-publishing, with thoughts on why even pro authors are considering it a viable option today.
Visit http://thespectacleblog.wordpress.com/ and search for or click on the topic link to self-publishing.
I've added a regular Wednesday post on self-publishing on my blog, http://chriseboch.blogspot.com/. Fridays will still cover the craft of writing.

The Eyes of Pharaoh, Egypt, new books
My latest book, The Eyes of Pharaoh, is now available! You can order a printed copy through Amazon or download the e-book version for the Kindle or Nook. If you don't have an e-reader, you can still read e-books with an application on your computer, phone, or iPod. Give it a try, and you'll never be without a book!
The Eyes of Pharaoh is a mystery set in ancient Egypt. I loved learning about the age of the pharaohs when I was a kid, and it's just as much fun now. Try my book for action-packed adventure alongside feisty Seshta, a young temple dancer. Then see the "For Teachers" page for a list of projects to use in the classroom and the "Reading List" page for more resources.

ghost story
Some people swore that the house was haunted. Yeah, right.
"Let's look around," my sister said, pulling on my arm. "Mom and Dad will be busy for a while."
"Whatever." None of my friends were there to see me, so I followed her up creaking stairs and through musty rooms hung with cobwebs. I (more…)
