The Cambridge Companion to Voltaire praises A Visit From Voltaire
In his introduction to the March 2009 "Cambridge Companion to Voltaire," editor Nicholas Cronk includes "A Visit From Voltaire" as one of five noteworthy modern fiction works inspired by the "protean" Voltaire since 2000; "In the tradition of the best self-help novels, Voltaire teaches her how to live a happy and full life." What an unexpected honour for my comic fiction to be included in a definitive academic reference about Voltaire and his influence down the centuries. Thank you, Prof. Cronk!

The IHT's Oct 29 Burma coverage features a joke: Par Par Lay goes to India to seek relief for a toothache. The Indian dentist wonders why he's come all that way. "Don't you have dentists in Myanmar?"
Par Par Lay answers, "Oh, yes, but in Myanmar, we're not allowed to open our mouths."

A teacher had four students, an American, a European, an African and a Chinese. He asked them to write an essay on the topic “What is your personal opinion of the world food shortage?” “What is the world?” asked the American student. “What is a shortage?” asked the European. “What is food?” asked the African. Then the Chinese student asked: “What is a personal opinion?”
