My WorksHistory of the American Suffragist Movement (1998)
Written for the 150th anniversary of the 1848 Seneca Falls, NY convention in which women made their first organized demand for political equality, this book won an award from the International Society of School Librarians. Book Report said it “details how incredibly complex were the issues… [it is] a tale of coalition-building and the lengthy, expensive, and sophisticated efforts of the diverse forces banding together for women’s rights…This fascinating and highly readable book…should be in core collection[s].” A History of Women in the United States: State-by-State Reference
To be published in November 2003 by Grolier Academic Reference, this is the first work on American women that is arranged by state (or potential state). Weatherford’s narratives for each begin with “Prehistory” and end with “Postwar and Contemporary History;” other chronological subdivisions are appropriate to the place’s individual past. |
