Born in Vienna, 1924. Emigrated to England after German occupation in 1938. School in England until 1940, then left for the U.S. Served in US Army Military- and Counter-Intelligence, 1943-46. B.A. NYU 1949, Ph.D. Yale 1953. Taught at Harvard and the University of Toronto. In 1965 founding chair of psychology at the University of California, San Diego. Fellow, American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Society of Experimental Psychologists. Received Honorary Doctorate from the University of Vienna in 2009. Residence in La Jolla, California and in London. Married Jean Matter 1957; sons Peter and Michael. |
