JASNA-SW 2006 Winter Meeting

A Recap of JASNA-SW's 2006 Winter Meeting Program

On Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the Los Angeles Athletic Club, performers and speakers who share our passion for Jane Austen entertained us with their knowledge of Regency pastimes:

* Sheryl Craig from Central Missouri State University spoke about “'The Torments of Rice Puddings and Apple Dumplings’: Jane Austen and Food.”

* Our new JASNA President, Marsha Huff, discussed “Viewing Austen Through Vermeer’s Camera Obscura.”

* A celebrated musician and fellow Janeite, John Khouri, diverted us with his knowledge of music in Jane Austen’s novels and treated us to a piano forte concert.

* We were entertained by a dramatic reading of Jane Austen’s short play, The History of Sir Charles Grandison, featuring our very own Nancy Gallagher and several brave members of the audience.

* We delighted in a delectable lunch that even Mr. Woodhouse would have devoured:

Spring Salad

choice of:

*Eggplant Ravioli with Artichoke Hearts and Sundried Tomatoes or

*Chairman’s Reserved New York Strip with Jack Daniel Sauce or

*Baked Halibut served with Beurre Blanc

Heartshaped Truffle

JASNA-SW proceeds from the AGM subsidized the speakers, event parking, and the morning refreshments.
