Special Screening of THE DUCHESS

for giving JASNA-SW members a sneak preview
of THE DUCHESS, which opened on October 10, 2008


A good thing about being Janeites living in Los Angeles are invitations JASNA-SW members receive to attend special screenings of films before their wide release. On September 16, 2008, Paramount Vantage, the specialty film division of Paramount Pictures, gave JASNA-SW members and guests a sneak preview of its film “The Duchess” at the Landmark Theater in west Los Angeles.

THE DUCHESS is based on Amanda Foreman's best-selling, award-winning novel about Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire.

Starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes, the movie focuses on the marriage between Georgiana and the Duke of Devonshire. JASNA-SW member Diana Birchall moderated a panel discussion afterwards with Foreman and producer Gabrielle Tana.

JASNA-SW members have also attended special screenings of “The Jane Austen Book Club,” “Becoming Jane,” and the 2005 release of “Pride and Prejudice.”
