Jane Austen Society of North America - Southwest Region
Membership Information 2009

If you are a fan of all things Austen, you belong in the Jane Austen Society of North America and JASNA-Southwest! JASNA-SW is a region of JASNA and covers Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and Ventura counties. JASNA-SW offers you the opportunity to make nearby friends with compatible Janeites who love the novels, letters, life and times of Jane Austen.

We offer two regional events a year: one in the spring and again in early December. These meetings include speakers on a variety of topics related to Jane Austen and activities such as period dancing. The December meeting includes a celebration of Jane’s birthday. Meetings are held at locations throughout southern California. Our publication, The JASNA Southwest Newsletter, keeps you apprised of local and national events, contains information on the reading groups and features articles of interest on Jane and related topics. We currently sponsor eight local reading groups.

JASNA-SW has separate dues, in addition to JASNA dues. The local dues support many activities and functions for our members:
• Programs. For the last four years we have been charging you only the actual cost of the lunch at these events. The Board is using reserve funds and dues to subsidize the full cost of the meetings, including:
o speaker expenses (who receive an honorarium and sometimes plane tickets and a night’s lodging)
o rental of A/V equipment, pianos and the like
o coffee and tea service at the beginning of a regional meeting
• A contribution to each Reading Group’s annual Jane Austen Birthday celebration
• Postage and printing for paper mailings such as program announcements and membership renewal and for contacting new members.
• The cost of the e-mail listserv software.
• The cost of the web page and domain name.
• The cost of printing and mailing the Newsletter (only JASNA-SW members receive the Newsletter).

If you are member of JASNA, but have not yet paid dues to JASNA-SW, please help support these popular and important functions of the local organization. If you are a member of JASNA-SW, but have not joined JASNA national, please know that we are an affiliated region of JASNA. JASNA provides substantial support to local regions, including insurance and legal assistance. JASNA By-Laws note that you must be a member of JASNA to participate. Please think about it!

We have a differential pricing structure for attendance at JASNA-SW events. JASNA and JASNA-SW members pay less than non-members to attend, so it really pays to become a member. Also, at some venues space is limited and members naturally have priority. In order to avoid disappointment, please join or renew your membership today. Membership in JASNA-SW costs $15 per annum.

To join JASNA-SW or renew your membership, please click on the link above to download a printer-friendly version of this form (or print from the screen if you prefer), fill in your information, and mail the form and your membership check to the address below.

Membership is $15 per person.

If you are sending in a membership check for more than one person, please include information for each joiner.
