2012 Spring Meeting: At the Seaside with Jane Austen
Save 19 May 2012 for a seaside holiday with Jane Austen at the beautiful Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, site of the historic Marion Davies Beach House. Iris Lutz will introduce us to The Houses of Jane Austen in Fact and Fiction, Diana Birchall will talk about the seaside in Jane Austen's life and fiction, and Jan Fahey will give us information about one of the topics Jane would never discuss, waste management in Regency times.

2011 Winter Meeting: "Do Not Physic Them" : Medicine in Jane Austen's Time
On Saturday, 3 December 2011, we learned about Regency-era health issues for women at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Presentations included:

"A Dangerous Indulgence: Women's Health in Jane Austen's Time" by Cheryl Kinney, M.D.

"Concealed Pregnancy in Jane Austen's Novels" by Florida attorney Arnie Perlstein.

"Quackery, Snake Oil and Flim Flam" by local historian Walter Nelson.

2007 Winter Meeting: A Jane Austen Mystery Celebration
Program Highlights:

Margery Rich, longtime JASNA-SW member, gave a fascinating talk on Pride and Prejudice as a detective novel.

Lynda Hall from Chapman University gave us a new perspective on Austen's most controverisal work with “Addressing Readerly Unease: Discovering the Gothic in Mansfield Park.”

There was also a special, audience-participation event that explored "our mysterious longing for Jane Austen."
