Julie Gilgoff

Biography

Julie Gilgoff was born and bred in New York City. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Barnard College, she traveled to remote destinations in Nicaragua, Argentina, and Israel, writing for regional and international media sources. She has published feature articles in New York Newsday, The Jerusalem Report, and The Jerusalem Post. Fluent in Spanish and Hebrew, she travels abroad to cover stories that require in depth interviews with Latin Americans and Middle Easterners in their native tongue. She has written for academic journals such as The Georgetown Journal for Law and Poverty and the Johns Hopkins Africana Studies website. Gilgoff has also contributed to Not for Tourists guidebooks.

A jill of all trades, Gilgoff has been an elementary school teacher, yoga instructor, farmhand, actress, juggler, and donut maker, bringing humor and compassion to her writing.

Gilgoff is presently working on her first non-fiction book, a family history project focusing on her grandfather who was persecuted in the McCarthy era.
