When the Beginning Began, illustrated by Emily Lisker, 1999.From "God Learns to Create": Making the world was not easy. If God hadn't been careful there might be fish that bark, alligators walking into grocery stores and buying kosher hot dogs, and people sitting on nests and laying eggs. However, we do have mosquitoes, hay fever, cold sheets, brussels sprouts, and hiccups.Maybe God was not as careful as he could have been. God would not have gotten into the creation business if he had something to do. But there was just him and and the angels -- sitting in the dark. This darkness was unlike anything that ever was or will be. It had no top, middle, bottom, or middle and was thick, like a question that could never be answered. Not only was it impossible to see through, you couldn't move against it. But since there was nowhere to go, that did not cause a problem. |
