    Novels of the Past

As a child I loved to leave my life behind. At school I often spent recess lying on my stomach on the farthest verge of grass, a library book in front of me. The din of the playground became a murmur as I slipped into other worlds, other centuries.

Now I write the same sort of novels I used to read, and when my writing is going well, I have the same kind of experience. I slip away from my to-do list and become immersed in another world.
