KATHERINE STURTEVANT is the author of two historical novels for young readers from Farrar, Straus and Giroux. At the Sign of the Star tells the story of 12-year-old Meg, a bookseller's daughter whose economic future is threatened by her father's remarriage. Karen Cushman, author of The Midwife's Apprentice, called At the Sign of the Star "a wonderful combination of history, humor, and storytelling." A True and Faithful Narrative begins when Meg is sixteen and continues her story as she struggles to develop her gift for writing in the midst of a society that looks askance at literary women.

Katherine received both her B.A. and her M.A. in creative writing from San Francisco State University. She has been awarded residencies at several artists' colonies, most recently the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire. Katherine lives in Berkeley with her husband, her twin sons, and two Maine Coon cats.
