Miryam Ehrlich Williamson

Biography

Miryam Ehrlich Williamson is the author of five in-print books on health subjects and several out-of-print books on what was, when they were published, advanced computer technology. Before making the move into writing about health she wrote more than two hundred articles for the computer press. Her work was published in magazines such as Computerworld, Byte, CIO (Chief Information Officer), and PC Week. She also writes short fiction and has a second novel in the works. A book of collaborative poetry written with the poet Vivina Ciolli was a finalist in a recent publishing contest, giving Miryam reason to hope the book will someday appear in print.

She was somewhat educated at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and its Graduate School of Education. Earlier in her life she was a legal researcher, elementary school librarian, first grade teacher, political campaign manager at the presidential and senatorial levels, advertising manager for a chain of local newspapers, daily newspaper reporter covering politics and public affairs, and owner and president of a local cable television company.

Miryam became a freelance writer in 1983 because she wanted to get people to pay her to learn interesting things. She considers herself successful because she does the work she loves, and loves the work she does.

When she needs a vacation from writing, Miryam takes on editing assignments. Copy editing is fun, she says, because someone else has done the heavy lifting. She learned the key to good editing technique from some fairly bad editors, and one very good one at the publisher of most of her health books.

Her current project is a book co-written with a forensic anthropologist. Random House will publish it in 2005.

Miryam lives on a tiny farm in Western Massachusetts where she raises chickens, grows vegetables, and nurtures a cutting garden of perennial flowers. She spends some time most weeks as a hospice volunteer. Her hobbies include digital photography and singing with a community chorus.
