Patrick Suraci, Ph.D

Male Sexual Armor: Erotic Fantasies and Sexual Realities of the Cop on the Beat and the Man in the Street

Dr. Suraci conducted personal interviews with police officers and with men in other occupations. In these case studies we get an intimate look into that very private world of conflict among a manís sexual feelings, fantasies, desires, beliefs, fears and behavior. The conflict among these elements is often devastating.

The author discovered that men have a passive component--a desire to relinquish the burden of active, dominant, masculine sexuality. The rape fantasy is a dramatic example of this: many men have a fantasy not only of raping but of being raped, not only by a woman but sometimes even by a man.

Selected Works

Dr. Suraci learned about Sybil in 1973 when his friend, Flora Schreiber, gave him her book, "Sybil". After Flora died, he discovered Sybil's true identity - Shirley Mason - and they became friends. She gave Dr. Suraci all the personal material that is in "Sybil In Her Own Words". Book reading and signing at the Bluestockings bookstore, March 31, 2012, at 7 pm. A projection of the paintings made by 5 of Sybil's alternate personalities with interpretations and playing a recorded conversation with Shirley Mason enlighted the audience. Book reading and signing at the Middletown Township Public Library in New Jersey on October 3 at 7 pm.
