The Shippingport Presssurized Water Reactor (co-author)

This book was published by Addison-Wesley in 1958 and made part of the official U.S. presentation package at the International Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva.

Creation of the world's first commercial central station atomic power plant was assigned by President Eisenhower to Admiral Rickover and his Naval Reactors program. That program required the rapid accumulation and assimilation of a wide diversity of technological information and experience, and the declassification and dissemination of that information to the scientific and industrial communities world-wide.

This book was prepared by selected members of the three organizations responsible for the project: Naval Reactors (a joint Navy/Atomic Energy Commission organization, representing the U.S. Government), Westinghouse (the reactor plant designer), and Duquesne Light Company (the private electric utility company). It brought together for the first time, anoverall view of the plant and its purposes, and a detailed description of the main technical features of the plant.

Each of the 20 chapters was written by selected members of the three organizations, sometimes supplemented by engineers or officials of other organizations heavily involved in the project. The book is organized as follows:
