Letter to the World: The Life and Dances of Martha Graham

Hardcover edition, originally published 1995.

Books are available from the author for $16.95 plus $5.00 shipping/handling.

This biography introduces young readers of all ages to Martha Graham [1894-1991], one of America’s most inspirational and successful dancers and choreographers, a pioneer of modern dance, who helped redefine the cultural landscape of the 20th century. Her physical strength and prolific mind enabled her to perform in her own works until she was seventy-four and to continue choreographing until her death at ninety-six. Woven through Graham’s life story are descriptions and analyses of her most significant dances [including Appalachian Spring, American Document, Clytemnestra], those who influenced her [dancer Ruth St. Denis, composer Louis Horst, sculptor Isamu Noguchi], and those she influenced [Erick Hawkins, Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor].
