Biography

Tom Waldron is a Baltimore author and former newspaper reporter. He spent 17 years with the Baltimore Sun, covering state politics, government and higher education, as well as assignments that took him from Mississippi to Massachusetts.

His freelance work has appeared in Details, Attache, Book and Baltimore magazines, and in the Washington Post Outlook section, the Los Angeles Times, Newsday and the Baltimore Sun.

Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Waldron grew up in Houston and Hightstown, N.J., and graduated from Yale University in 1980 with a degree in architecture. He lives in Baltimore with his wife, Stephanie Shapiro, a feature writer for The Sun, and their two sons.

Waldron helped cover the story of the loss of the Pride of Baltimore in 1986 for the Baltimore Evening Sun. To write the book, he interviewed more than 60 people, including survivors of the sinking and the families of crewmembers who died.

"Pride of the Sea" is his first book.
